Digitisation Days in Madrid

The Succeed project, funded by the European Commission, promotes the take up and validation of research results in mass digitisation, with a focus on textual content. Together with the Impact Centre of Competence it has organised the Digitisation Days event which takes place on 19-20 May at the National Library of Spain (BNE), Madrid.

The topic for the two days is the Digitisation of Cultural Heritage and experts will discuss, analyse, and present the latest innovations in the digitisation of historical text, as part of the DATeCH International Conference (Digital access to Cultural Heritage Textual). The programme also includes panel discussions on digitisation policies, intellectual property rights, a technology exhibition and an awards ceremony.

The Succeed awards ceremony recognises innovative digitisation programmes and the nominations were judged by a panel of experts in the field: Michael Keller (Stanford University), Milagros del Corral (UNESCO), Jill Cousins (Europeana), Frank Frischmuth (German Digital Library), Steven Krauwer (University of Utrecht), and Andrew Prescott (King’s College London). The ceremony will be chaired by Mario Vargas Llosa, Nobel laureate in Literature 2010 and President of the Virtual Library Miguel de Cervantes Foundation. For the details of the winners please see here.

If you are attending the Digitisation Days, please join Rossitza and Faye Fornasier on the second day for a round table discussion on the future research for digital libraries!
