A favourite example to amuse non-Hull speakers is 'er, there's a terd in the rerd' - a reference to an amphibian, not a fecal bolus.

Being from Hull myself, I've always wondered if this er-sound is a hangover from the Danish invaders in that long-distant past, when we still had our ern fern system. Um, own phone system.

Maybe we should write Hull with the Scandy letter ø? Øh nø, A've spilt me cøke all øver the phøne.
